Two Killed in Israeli Strike on Damascus, Says Syrian Defence Ministry

(AWP) - The Syrian Defence Ministry said that two people were killed in an Israeli missile attack that targeted a residential building in Kafr Soussa, in Damascus, on Wednesday.

A ministry statement quoted a military source as saying that the Israeli attack, which came from the direction of the Syrian Golan Heights, caused damage to the building, as well as to nearby houses.

Local resident Ayed Darwish, who ran towards the site of the bombing to check on his daughter in her school, said that there are no soldiers in the targeted location.

“My daughter is in school. All the children were terrified. It was very difficult to enter the school. It was an indescribable feeling. Everyone here is a civilian, and there are no military personnel. May God grant this country the best possible,” he added.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the Israeli bombardment that shook Damascus could be heard in a number of areas across the capital.

A Syrian pupil, who was in the nearby school, said that she had been frightened by the strike.

“We were sitting in class, and suddenly we heard a sound. We thought it was a normal knock, and we moved away from the windows. After a while, the windows started shaking, and the school shook abnormally,” she said.

“We quickly went down to the basement, leaving everything behind us. There was someone who fell unconscious to the ground, and there was a state of extreme fear,” she added.
