Thousands of Sudanese Continue Fleeing to Sennar After RSF Seizes Control of Wad Madani
(AWP) - One day after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced seizing control of the city of Wad Madani in al-Jazirah state, thousands of Sudanese people continued fleeing towards the city of Sennar, around 100 kilometres to the south.
Local organisations say that nearly 25,000 displaced Sudanese, who were previously forced to escape the capital Khartoum for Wad Madani, have started yet another displacement journey towards Sennar after RSF forces entered the city following the Sudanese army’s retreat from its positions in the First Infantry Division.
Video footage from the Arab World Press (AWP) news agency showed long queues of cars and buses carrying displaced people at the entrance to the city of Sennar.
Eyewitnesses said that Sennar authorities are carrying out thorough security verifications for all arrivals, leading to the congestion of thousands of vehicles at the entrance to the city, forcing some displaced people to abandon their vehicles and continue their journey on foot.
Sources in Wad Madani told AWP that heavily armed RSF vehicles had closed the main road towards Sennar and ordered citizens not to leave Wad Madani, promising not to harm them.
Sennar state imposed a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am, along with five other Sudanese states that announced a similar decision as a precautionary measure in anticipation of possible RSF attacks.
