Strike in the West Bank Amid Global Calls for Solidarity with Palestinians
(AWP) - Usual daily activities were almost brought to a halt throughout the West Bank on Monday in response to calls for a global strike in solidarity with the Palestinian people amid the ongoing Israeli war in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Health Ministry in Gaza, the war has so far killed around 18,000 people, most of whom are children and women.
AWP video footage showed closed stores in the streets of Ramallah in the West Bank with significantly low traffic and pedestrians.
Several Palestinian political forces had released a statement calling for a "day of general strike in all aspects of life." They also called on "West Bank residents to take to the streets of cities, villages and refugee camps to express the unity of blood and destiny and for victory for the defenceless innocents, sending a message to the world that our people will stand strong against attempts to uproot and displace. "
Calls for the strike come as the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip enters its third month, resulting in the death of 17,997 Palestinians and the injury of 49,000 others.
