Palestinians Accuse Israeli Army of Exhuming Graves And “Arresting Martyrs” In Khan Yunis
(AWP) - Several Palestinians stood sorrowfully in front of several graves in the Austrian District in Khan Yunis, from which they said Israeli forces had exhumed and stolen the dead during a rapid intrusion earlier in January.
AWP video footage showed excavated and razed graves with destroyed tombstones, amongst which recently buried bodies, inside cloth shrouds, could be seen.
A resident said that the Israeli army had “arrested four martyrs,” all belonging to one family.
“We recently buried them. These bodies have not dried yet. They arrested four martyrs from the Barbakh family, from here. The martyrs were here,” he said, pointing to their graves.
“They brought out the dead. Why? Isn't it forbidden? This is not fair. Come and see. By God, it is unfair,” he lamented.
The government media office in Gaza has accused the Israeli army of exhuming hundreds of graves throughout the Strip, in which nearly 25,000 people have been killed since Israel launched its war following a surprise Hamas attack on nearby Israeli settlements on 7 October.
The media office said that the Israeli army had exhumed 1100 graves and stolen 150 bodies from Al-Tofah cemetery, east of Gaza City.
Palestinians accuse the Israeli army of demolishing graves and extracting the bodies of the dead.
