Palestinian Teacher Turns Her Home into A Classroom for Pupils in Rafah

(AWP) - A Palestinian teacher in Rafah has turned an empty room in her house into a temporary classroom for pupils who were forced out of school at the outbreak of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, which began more than five months ago.

From her house in this city that lies in the south of the Strip, English language teacher Nour Abdelsalam tells AWP that she was shocked to find out that that many children had forgotten everything they had learned before the war.

“I was surprised that the children, who excelled in their studies, had forgotten everything because of the war, and because we have been in this war for almost half a year. Now I am trying to remind them again, and God willing, when the crisis passes, the children will return to their schools and to their education,” she said.

She began her initiative after the mothers of the pupils she taught before the war contacted her and asked her to teach them once more.

“Now I am trying to teach them the basics of the English language again, outside of the curriculum, so that they can still retain it,” Abdelsalam added.
