Jenin Camp Destruction Following a Two-Day Israeli Military Incursion

(AWP) - AWP video footage showed widespread destruction in the Palestinian Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank following a military operation by the Israeli army.

Army forces withdrew on Thursday morning following the two-day military incursion in which 12 Palestinians were killed, according to local media reports.

The Palestinian Shehab News Agency quoted the director of a hospital in the city of Jenin as saying that a young man had died from wounds sustained during the Israeli forces’ raid.

The Israeli army began its incursion on Tuesday morning, when seven Palestinians were killed and another four were killed on Wednesday.

The ages of those killed ranged between 16 to 53 years.

“What happened was that [the Israeli army] sent a drone and it flew around the neighbourhood for a while,” said Faisal Shalabi, a Jenin camp resident.

He continued, “My brothers and I had three houses here, and the houses contained over 40 people, most of whom are children and women… and we were stunned by this whole house collapsing around us.”

According to Hassan Zwaideh, another camp resident, “[The Israeli army] stayed until just before sunset yesterday and they withdrew at around 11 p.m. While they were here, they spent 2 hours demolishing everything. The bulldozers came and demolished everything in the area, and they deployed snipers on the rooftops.”

The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) said that an Israeli force opened fire at press crews working in Jenin, after surrounding a hotel used by journalists to prepare their news stories.

WAFA added that one of the hotel’s staff members was shot and wounded in the process.
