Israeli Forces Storm Palestine’s Largest University and Arrest 20 Students

(AWP) - Officials at the al-Najah National University in Nablus, the largest university in Palestine, said on Monday that Israeli forces raided its campus, and arrested 20 students who were protesting on the premises.

Dr. Raed al-Debiy, the university President’s Assistant for Community Affairs, told AWP that hundreds of Israeli soldiers took part in the raid and arrested the students, who were participating in a sit-in for union demands.

He added that several security personnel were also wounded and arrested by Israeli forces in the process.

The university issued a statement describing the incident as “a recurring scene of Israel’s attacks on national, educational, health and religious institutions.”

The statement added, “This dangerous intrusion constitutes a blatant and clear violation of all international norms and conventions that criminalise violations of the sanctity of educational institutions and universities. It adds to the crimes of the occupation against the educational process and its institutions in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and occupied Jerusalem.”

The university held the Israeli government responsible for the safety of its staff members and students who were arrested on campus and called for their immediate release.
