Israeli Army Announces Biggest Daily Losses Since Gaza Ground Operation

(AWP) - The Israeli army announced on Wednesday its largest losses in a single day since it launched the ground operation in Gaza on October 27, as the war in the Strip entered its 68th day.

AWP footage showed the bombardment of the area of Abasan, east of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, while sounds of heavy gunfire were heard and thick smoke rose from several areas targeted by Israeli raids.

The Israeli army announced the death of 10 of its soldiers, saying that nine of them were ambushed in the al-Shujaiyya neighbourhood, eastern Gaza City, which falls north of the Strip which the Israeli army divided into northern and southern parts.

Earlier today, the Israeli army announced the killing of an officer and a soldier during the ground battles in Gaza, a few hours following the death of eight Israeli soldiers and officers in clashes and operations in the Strip.

The army said in a statement that the officer served as a battalion commander in the Golani Brigade and was killed in battles in northern Gaza, while the soldier was a fighter in the same brigade.

This brings the number of Israeli army deaths since the start of the ground incursion into the Gaza Strip to 115, including officers and soldiers.

Also on Wednesday, the Israeli army’s spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, said that the army bombed 250 Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip in the previous 24 hours.

He added in a statement that the army targeted an armed cell that intended to launch rockets towards Israeli territories from the Strip.

Hagari also announced the targeting of Hamas' infrastructure and facilities.
