Hamdok in Egypt to Discuss Efforts to End Sudan War
(AWP) - The former Prime Minister of Sudan, Abdalla Hamdok, is visiting Cairo to discuss efforts to end the war in Sudan, leading a delegation from the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (CCDF).
Hamdok met with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul-Gheit on Sunday during his first visit to Egypt since the war broke out in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in April.
A statement on Facebook read that the visit “comes within the context of historic relations between the two peoples and within the framework of efforts made by the CCDF with friendly countries to work on extinguishing the fire of the war raging in our country, addressing the catastrophic humanitarian conditions of our people, and working on responding effectively to them in a manner that alleviates the magnitude of this tragedy.”
The statement said that the delegation would discuss ways to reach a peaceful political solution that would “lay the foundations for a durable peace in [Sudan], requiring the will of political players and coordinated regional and international efforts to help attain this objective as soon as possible.”
Hamdok’s visit will also include meetings with Egyptian intellectuals, opinion makers and a variety of Sudanese figures currently in Egypt, according to the statement.
