Egypt Launches “Price Radar” Phone App to Help Consumers Find the Best Deals

(AWP) - The Technical Secretariat of the Supreme Committee for Regulating Markets and Commodity Prices in Egypt is preparing to launch a new phone application called ‘Price Radar,’ which will enable users to search for and compare best available price for products within specific locations.

The spokesman for the Egyptian Customer Protection Agency, Eslam El-Gazzar, said that the new app will be fully operational by July, after completing its current trial period.

He believes that the app will enhance the concept of popular price monitoring, saying, “This application will greatly assist citizens in finding the lowest price for the product they want where they are located. Additionally, it will enhance competitiveness by encouraging companies, producers, or suppliers to continue providing the lowest price for the product they sell.”

While out shopping near his house, Egyptian citizen Mohammed al-Awady used the application which led him to a store selling basic goods at genuine prices.

He said, “I believe that the application is excellent, and its widespread use will allow the consumer to know if the prices in the place they are shopping at match the prices in the application, helping us to avoid getting cheated or ending up in a place where the prices are greatly exaggerated.”
