31 Palestinians Killed in Israeli Airstrike on Gaza's Nuseirat Camp – WAFA

(AWP) - Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that rescue and civil defense teams recovered the bodies of 31 people killed following an Israeli airstrike on a house in al-Nuseirat camp, central Gaza, during the early hours of Sunday, as the Israeli war on the enclave enters its eighth month.

Outside the Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, where the bodies of the dead were received, relatives gathered to bid a final farewell to their loved ones before the bodies were transported for burial.

Among them was a mother cradling the body of her dead infant daughter and crying bitterly.

A Palestinian woman related to the victims said, “They ordered us to leave the north, so we left. They said the southern areas were going to be safe, so we headed there. My nephew, who was killed today, had fled to his daughter’s house in al-Nuseirat. When it was said that al-Nuseirat was going to be subjected to shelling raids, they relocated to the [displacement camp] tents in Rafah, where life is completely inhumane and humiliating.”

“Because his daughter was about to give birth, he returned to Nuseirat once again, and their house was shelled while they were inside. They were not resistance fighters and didn’t have any weapons. They were completely peaceful.”

She asked, “Why should 20 people die like this all at once? Why should an 8-month-old baby wake up to find no father or mother around? Who would accept this? … Who would accept this, people?”

The health ministry in Gaza announced on Saturday that 35,386 people have been killed and 79,366 wounded in the Israeli war on the enclave since October 7, 2023.
