14 Injured in Building Collapse in Tadamon Suburb in Damascus, Says Syrian Ministry of Health

(AWP) - The Syrian Health Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that 14 people were wounded in the collapse of a six-story building in the suburb of Tadamon, in the capital, Damascus.

According to Waleed al-Saleh, an area resident, the building was being extended from 3 to 6 stories.

"The building collapsed while it was being clad, but it was already in violation of code. We called civil defence and the ambulance the moment the accident occurred. The governor came, and the wounded were immediately transported to hospitals while the team excavated the rubble and moved it away from the place,” he said.

The Syrian state news agency (SANA) quoted the Ministry of Interior as saying on its Facebook page that, "patrols from the Damascus Governorate Police Command, Civil Defence, the Damascus Fire Brigade, and the Red Crescent arrived at the site of the collapse, and work is underway to remove the rubble and treat the injured".

The Ministry of Health indicated that the accident was reported at 9:30 pm local time on Monday.
