Thousands March Carrying Shrouds in Tel Aviv to Protest the Spread of Violence in Green Line Towns
(AWP) - Thousands of Arab and Jewish residents of Israel carried symbolic shrouds in a march that toured the streets of Tel Aviv to protest what they call the spread of violence in the Green Line towns.
The "March of the Dead" kicked-off towards the centre of Tel Aviv, where women wore white clothes as a sign of shrouds to highlight the killing of more than 100 persons in Arabian towns inside Israel this year.
Participants, who include civil society organisations and institutions, say that the spread of violence and crime has claimed the lives of 135 Arab persons, including women and children in Green Line towns so far in 2023.
Under the eyes of Israeli police, which authorised the march, 6000 persons marched through few kilometres between the Hebmia roundabout And Tel Aviv.
According to organisers, the march aims at conveying the voices protesting the spread of violence and fearing further proliferation of crime in Green Line towns.
Organisers pointed to what they describe as "a sharp rise of 250% in the number of crime victims in the Arab community during the first third of this year, compared to the same period last year".
