Syria’s Qamishli Locals Mourn Young Man Who Died of Thirst in Algerian Desert

(AWP) - The local residents of al-Qamishli, northeastern Syria, bade final farewell to Aldar Abdel-Nafi’e Hussein, one of 12 young men who died of thirst in the Algerian desert after their car broke down while attempting to migrate to Europe from Libya.

Footage of the Arab World Press (AWP) showed grieving locals who were waiting for the car carrying Hussein’s body to arrive amid weeping by his relatives.

The Algerian Ghawth Search and Rescue Organization had said earlier this month that it had found a vehicle with 12 bodies of Syrian young people in the area of Bolqbur in the Algerian desert days after the car had been reported missing.

Media reports indicated that Algeria’s southern borders, particularly with Libya and Niger, were witnessing activities by illegal immigrants smuggling networks in trips that sometimes ended in loss in the desert and death of thirst.

The members of these networks leave the immigrants to continue their trips on foot under tough weather conditions.
