Saudi Ambassador to Palestine Arrives in Ramallah and Reaffirms Support for the Palestinian Cause

(AWP) - The non-resident Saudi ambassador to Palestine, Nayef al-Sudairi, said his country, represented by King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, is keen on supporting the Palestinian cause and ensuring the security and stability of the region.

Sudairi, who arrived in Ramallah on Tuesday for a two-day visit, said during a press conference with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki that “relations between Palestine and Saudi Arabia are historic, dating back to the era of King Abdulaziz.”

Sudairi referred to an interview given by Prince Mohammed bin Salman with Fox News TV station, in which the Crown Prince confirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause.
Meanwhile, Maliki said the Saudi ambassador’s visit to Palestine is a “historic moment in the special relationship between the State of Palestine and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

Maliki added, “The appointment of a Saudi ambassador to Palestine is a step that brings the two countries even closer. The presence of a Saudi ambassador is a phase that will reflect further development of bilateral relations between the two countries.”

Later, a statement by the Palestinian Foreign Ministry quoted Sudairi as expressing happiness to represent his country in the State of Palestine and to be present “in his homeland, Palestine.”

The statement also said Sudairi hailed the steadfastness and sacrifices of the Palestinian people and pledged to do his best to further bolster bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields.

The Saudi envoy reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for the rights of the Palestinian people in all forums, including “the materialization of a Palestinian state on the ground with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the continued efforts to resolve the Palestinian issue and achieve peace in the Middle East in accordance with international references for peace and the Arab Peace Initiative.”

Maliki expressed to the Saudi ambassador his ministry’s readiness to help provide whatever is necessary to facilitate his official duties in the State of Palestine.
