Libyans Appeal to Authorities to Provide Services During Eastern Cold Snap
(AWP) - A cold snap swept eastern Libya this week as parts of the Al-Jebel Al-Akhdar (Green Mountain), including Al-Hamri Forest and Al-Bayda’, were covered in snow, pushing locals to appeal to the authorities to provide them with electricity and fuel to ease their suffering due to lack of services.
“Thick snow is covering the area, and we have no services. We wish the authorities would provide us with natural gas, fuel and water,” said Aly Moussa, a citizen who lives in the area.
Another inhabitant, Aly Hassan, urged the authorities not to cut off electricity in the cold weather, which is hard for the elderly as well as children.
“We also have to buy gas on the black market for 30 Libyan dinars (roughly $15), while diesel oil is only given to bakeries. We citizens stand in lines for diesel oil, but we never get it,” he complained.
Citizens in the area are troubled by the acute lack of water, cooking gas, fuel and diesel oil for heating.
The cold weather and tough living conditions, however, did not prevent the locals from having fun in the snow, going on picnics, and taking photos.
