(AWP) - The “Invest in Digital Economy” forum was launched in the Jordanian capital to discuss laying the institutional foundations for the future of the digital economy in Jordan and the countries under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Under the title “Amman, the Capital of Digital Economy,” the two-day forum is hosted by the Jordan Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development, and was inaugurated by the Jordanian Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Hanandeh, in the presence of economic and technology experts from OIC countries.
The Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development stated that the digital economy represents “an opportunity for Islamic countries to be among the nations seeking a better future with steps that keep pace with the leaps achieved by the amazing digital revolution.”
Khalil ElHaj Tawfiq, President of the Jordanian Chamber of Commerce, said, “This is an opportunity because such meetings help to unify efforts and exchange experiences on the subject of the digital economy and discuss artificial intelligence, digital transformation and cybersecurity.”
He added, “We have youthful energies that we do not want to emigrate, and there are Arab and Islamic success stories that have reached the international level and made great achievements through the capabilities of young people to invent solutions and applications.”
Firas Sultan, Representative of the Jordanian Chamber of Commerce’s Financial and Banking Sector, pointed out that Jordan “has made great strides in these areas. We are talking about electronic payments, electronic pathways, and electronic wallets.”
He stressed that the coronavirus pandemic period “witnessed solutions provided by the financial and banking sector in the field of paying remittances, salaries, and humanitarian aid.”
The Jordan Chamber of Commerce stated that the forum represents a vital platform for exchanging experiences and knowledge and strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors to enhance business in the field of digital economy.
