Iranian Ambassador to Syria Confirms at Least 5 Killed in Attack on Consulate Building in Damascus
(Arab World Press) - Five to seven people have been killed in an Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus, according to the Iranian ambassador to Syria Hussain Akbari on Monday, adding that search and rescue operations are still ongoing.
Akbari told reporters through an interpreter that his country ”is not worried about any action taken by Israel.”
He added, “We stand by the resistance,” while accompanying Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al Mekdad on a visit to the attacked building.
The ambassador’s comments came after the Syrian Defence Ministry reported that Israel had conducted an airstrike on a building adjacent to the Syrian consulate in Al Mazzeh district in Damascus, killing or injuring all those inside.
The building was completely destroyed.
