Identity and Social Challenges Among Themes Explored by German Film Week in Morocco
(AWP) - In an effort to bring the Moroccan audience closer to German culture, German Film Week kicked off in the Moroccan capital of Rabat, featuring five films that address social issues and challenges such as identity and family relationships.
Organisers say that the films shown during this third edition of the event include ones that won awards at global festivals.
According to Lisa Domin-Alouane, a film director and the artistic director of the event, the films were chosen based on those screened during last year’s edition.
She told AWP, “Each of the films programmed in this edition will be accompanied by a discussion to deepen the topics covered and share diverse viewpoints.”
Domin-Alouane added, “In this year’s edition of German Film Week, I planned the film programming, and we chose five films, including feature-length documentaries on different topics. They are good films and have won awards, and some of them are showing for the first time outside major festivals, such as the Berlinale, which is one of the most important festivals not only in Germany, but in the world. The films were chosen based on a comparison with the films that were shown last year and the films that we have all watched.”
This week’s schedule includes a diverse variety of award-winning German feature films, including a film by director Cem Kaya. The event will continue until February 17.
