Factory in Egypt to Produce High-End Replicas of Artefacts
(AWP) - With great dedication and perseverance, skilled Egyptian workers follow painstaking details to produce authentic replicas of monuments that Egyptian civilization enthusiasts love.
This work is taking place in the state-owned Konouz [“Treasures”] Factory established in 2020 in the city of al-Obour, north-east of Cairo, to produce identical models of original antiquities, using entirely local materials.
The products come with a certificate from the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) verifying them as exact replicas of the original Egyptian artefacts given that Egypt alone has the intellectual property rights of these monuments.
“The objective of this factory is to create replicas of antiquities befitting the Egyptian civilization. The replicas we used to have were not accurate, lacked our features and were significantly different from the artefacts at the museums,” said Ahmed Abul-Kheir, the factory manager.
“Our products are a very close copy of the original antiquities as seen in museums, compared to other products,” he added.
Dina Effat, a worker at the factory, said she felt so proud to be working in manufacturing replicas of the Egyptian civilization.
“When I used to go to the markets and saw the displayed pieces, I found them not to be accurately made or lacking as far as the image of replicas we want to present to the whole world,” she noted.
Hany Abu-Badr, the factory’s executive director, said the most important thing about the replicas being produced at the factory is that each piece has the seal of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) and the tag ‘Made in Egypt’.
“The product is given a certificate that it is an exact replica of the original, in addition to a barcode on each piece. This can never be found anywhere in the world except Egypt, which has the intellectual property rights to make replicas of its antiquities,” he explained.
