Cases of Hepatitis A Reported Due to Pollution in Northeast Syria
(AWP) - Cases of Hepatitis A infection have been reported in the city of Hasakah in northwest Syria, with experts attributing this to the high levels of pollution in the area.
According to Roujin Fares Ibrahim, the physician responsible for infectious and chronic diseases at al-Shaab Hospital in Hasakah, symptoms of the infection include yellowing eyes, severely yellowing urine, and may be accompanied by high fever, general weakness, and abdominal pain.
She added that it is possible to treat hepatitis A infection at home by giving the patient a lot of fat-free food and restricting their movement.
Hepatitis A is a common disease in poor and developing countries and is usually caused by a lack of attention to sanitation and hygiene systems and vaccination programmes.
Roujin said that hygiene is essential to preventing the spread of the disease, in addition to isolating those infected because it is a type of virus that may be transmitted by close contact, food and water.
